Exhibitions of photobooks used to be a rarity: until recently, photobooks generally only appeared in exhibitions as a form of documentation alongside an exhibition of prints. That seems to be changing and more exhibitions devoted exclusively to photobooks are being made.
The Fotostiftung Schweiz in Winterthur has just opened an exhibition that is a “kind of typology of the Swiss Photobook”. The Swiss make some of the best photobooks out there at the moment and it would be interesting to see the origins of their strong photobook tradition. The exhibition is accompanied by an absolute monster of a book with 700 illustrations over 640 pages published by Lars Müller.
